Meta's new sales counting starts 12 November: what UK trades should know

Meta's Pixel will count more sales from 12 November, but according to the rules reported, it does nothing for UK users and needs a customer login, so most trades sites are unlikely to see a change.

Meta's new sales counting starts 12 November: what UK trades should know MARKETREAD · NEWS · 30 OCT 2026 Meta's new sales counting starts 12 November: what UK… 12 Nov when Meta's new device-side counting switches on marketread.co.uk/blog

What happened

Meta is changing how the Meta Pixel counts sales. According to PPC Land, from 12 November a new setting in Events Manager, labelled "Measure conversions on customer devices", will be switched on by default for every dataset that already sends events. Meta says it will recover purchases that currently never reach its reports. Anyone who does not want it has to opt out.

The idea is that measurement happens on the customer's device, instead of "exclusively" on Meta's servers. PPC Land reports that the matching pairs an email address the customer gave the business with temporary device data that Meta describes as non-identifying. Only the fact of a purchase, and the campaign credited with it, travel back to Meta.

Nothing about the campaigns themselves changes. What changes is the counting, so reported sales can look higher.

What it means for you

The first thing to know is that the setting is narrower than "on by default" suggests. PPC Land cites the analytics firm MetricMaven, which in turn cites Meta's help pages, listing three conditions. The feature does nothing for people in the European Union or the United Kingdom. The Pixel must sit directly on the page rather than inside an iframe or an image pixel. And the site must require a login with an email address or mobile number.

On those rules, a typical plumber, builder, salon or clinic website, where people fill in an enquiry form rather than log in, is unlikely to see any difference. If you run an online shop with customer accounts, it is worth reading the setting for yourself.

Meta has not said whether the recovered conversions feed its bidding systems, whether purchase values are included, or how consent is handled. Attribution windows and models stay as they are.

For businesses that are affected, the advice quoted is sensible. Yiqi Wu, chief executive of the e-commerce tracking firm Aimerce, wrote that he would not opt out by default. He recommended comparing Meta-attributed purchases with your actual orders, tracking the ratio over time and opting out only if the numbers stop agreeing.

There is a reason Meta cares about the count. According to PPC Land, Meta's own peak-season guidance says ad sets need about 50 conversions a week to leave the learning phase, and those below that threshold ran 28% more expensive per purchase. A setting that lifts the count can lift the number of ad sets that clear the bar.

The practical lesson for any small business is the same either way. A number in a Meta report is a report, not money in the bank. Check it against the calls, bookings and orders you actually got.

Where MarketRead fits

This kind of change is a good reminder to judge ads on evidence rather than on one dashboard figure. MarketRead runs your ads every day: losers are paused on evidence, winners are given more budget in safe steps, and tired ads are replaced.

You can still compare the plain facts that matter to your business, such as who rang and who booked, with what Meta says.

Questions

Do I need to switch off the new Meta Pixel setting?

Not necessarily. According to PPC Land, Aimerce's chief executive Yiqi Wu said he would not opt out by default, and advised comparing Meta's figures with your real orders and opting out only if the numbers stop agreeing.

Will this change affect a plumber's or salon's website?

Probably not. The rules reported by PPC Land say the feature does nothing for people in the UK or EU, and needs a site that requires a login with an email address or mobile number.

Should I judge my ads by Meta's reported sales?

Treat them with care, because the counting method is changing rather than your ads. Check the figures against the calls, bookings and orders you actually received.
