Is ChatGPT recommending your business?

What the check looks at

Being found and being recommended are different things. A business can rank on Google and still be missing from the answer ChatGPT gives.

  1. 01 Can ChatGPT find you?

    We ask "What is your business?" and check whether any source ChatGPT cites is your own site. If none is, it is answering from other people's pages, or not at all.

  2. 02 Does it recommend you?

    We ask the question a customer asks — "Who are the best emergency plumbers in Manchester?" — without your name in it, and check whether you are named.

  3. 03 Who it names instead

    The sites ChatGPT cited for that answer: the directories, reviews and comparison articles an answer about your market is built from. That is where you need to be mentioned.

  4. 04 What is stopping it

    Free technical checks on your site: whether robots.txt or a firewall turns OpenAI's crawlers away, and whether you have the structured data, sitemap and llms.txt AI assistants read.

Is it really free?

Why doesn't ChatGPT mention my business?
Usually one of three reasons: it cannot read your site (a robots.txt rule or a firewall turns OpenAI's crawlers away), it can read it but nothing says plainly what you do and where, or the pages it trusts for your market — directories, reviews, comparison articles — do not mention you. The check shows which.
Is this what ChatGPT shows me?
It is OpenAI's model with the same web search ChatGPT uses, asked fresh each time. ChatGPT personalises and varies its answers, so your own chat may differ; the check is a clean snapshot, not your personal feed.
What do you store?
The website, the words you typed, the answer, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address to enforce the daily limit. Your email only if you ask for the report. Nothing is shared or sold.
